Especially Cats Veterinary Hospital ....a haven for our furry friends
Especially Cats Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1984 by Dr. Charles Horwitz in a tiny building at 2055 Taraval Street. In 1986 Dr. Constance Korol joined him as a partner. Catering specifically to the many cat lovers in San Francisco, the hospital became a charming success but soon outgrew its facilities. In 1987 Dr. Horwitz and Dr. Korol purchased a new, larger building and remodeled it to provide optimum feline surroundings. All cages and equipment were positioned specifically with feline comfort and health in mind. This newer building, designed specifically as a hospital, featured more standardized veterinary facilities, while retaining the pleasant comfortable atmosphere that the founders had envisioned. With the completion of the project in 1989, Especially Cats moved to its current location at 1339 Taraval.
"I joined this practice," said Dr. Korol, "because I adore cats and love working with them. Because we specialize in felines, we can cater to their unique needs and try to provide them with the best care in the city. Cats have enough to worry about when going to the vet, without the sounds and smells of dogs. Stress plays a large role in the survival or recovery of an animal, so Especially Cats tries to provide the most stress-free environment in the city for the health and well-being of our cats"
In 1993 Dr. Anne-Marie Benfatto joined Especially Cats, followed by Dr. Ari Rozycki in 1997. Dr. Korol purchased the practice and became full owner in 1997, after the unfortunate death of her partner Charles Horwitz. Dr. Jennifer Pironis joined the staff in 2001.
Early in 1999, Especially Cats began using a new computer system. The choice of multicolored imacs seemed to fit in the atmosphere of the hospital perfectly. Even Fibber, the hospital's former mascot thought the computers were a success, finding the warm colored monitors very cozy napping spots. Our current mascot Hobo seems to agree.
In 2003 we started another remodeling project to further our goal to provide optimum feline care. We are looking forward to bringing the hospital into the 21st century.
